In 2005, Tara Southard and Jeff Martin set out to bring elegance and sophistication to Salt Lake City by opening Dexterity Salon, an intimate boutique salon in the heart of downtown. After moving from Chicago, Jeff gathered a team of passionate stylists, and with Tara's business savvy, they built a hub of creativity and excellence.

By 2019, the duo and their team expanded their vision to develop a salon-tested hair care product. After years of research and refinement, they launched Index Type 1 Multiwash—a versatile, transformative product that simplifies haircare while delivering healthy, shiny, strong hair.

Today, Index By Dex is a small-batch, multi-use haircare line crafted by the stylists of Dexterity Salon. Designed to simplify busy lives, it’s tailored to address the three most common hair concerns: frizz, dryness or damage, and lack of fullness or volume—because, you're not just one thing and neither are we.
